Criminal Justice: Forensics
College-level course work begins 2010-2011
*Space is limited in these career classes. Students enrolling as 9th, 10th, or 11th graders and signing up for this career area are guaranteed a seat when college course work begins in the 11th grade.
- Students learn about latent (hidden) evidence systems and operations.
- Focus is on local, state and federal law enforcement evidence processing and procedures;
- Theory and hands-on analysis of latent evidence such as fingerprint classification, identification and chemical development. They will learn to record, cast, and recognize footwear and tire-tracks, and process crime scenes.
- Issues and concepts of communications and the use of computers and computer-assisted design programs in crime scene technology will be discussed.
- Students who continue their education in this field of study could:
- Qualify for employment in a variety of criminal justice organizations especially in local, state, and federal law enforcement and correctional agencies.
- Work towards becoming a forensics expert or specialist who works with private individuals, corporations, and insurance companies.
- Proceed to other areas of study that could include DNA profiling, drug screening and testing, fire debris analysis, digital forensics and data recovery, accident reconstruction
